Background on Saint Yared Higher Clinic

Saint Yared Higher Clinic, which occupies the entire first floor of the Kelifa Business Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was opened at an inaugural ceremony attended by his Excellency Dr. Tedros Adhanom, Ethiopian Minster of Health on February 22, 2006. According to several healthcare professionals, it is one of the finest clinics in all of Ethiopia. It operates on a 24/7 basis and has its own radiological services (x-ray, ultrasound), fully equipped laboratory and a pharmacy in order to provide sustainable healthcare services. The clinic also has 15 modern hospital beds being used for acute/urgent care needs. The staff consists of Ethiopian and American trained doctors and nurses chosen for their experience and high-level training. Special arrangements have been made with the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York, and other American healthcare facilities in order to facilitate a continuous flow of highly trained American physicians. For example, third year medical residents from Albert Einstein College of Medicine have been rotating at Saint Yared Higher Clinic on a monthly basis and will continue to do so. This arrangement will contribute to the quality and standard of medical care provided at the clinic.

Specialties/ancillary services available at the clinic include internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, HIV counseling/ testing and treatment, inpatient services for urgent and acute care needs, minor outpatient surgery, comprehensive laboratory services, ultrasound, x-ray, EKG, Telemedicine (access to distant consultation services for rare or complicated medical problems requiring highly specialized diagnostics or care using internet-based technology), and much more.

In addition to the above services, we have excellent collaborating relationships with the Black Lion Hospital, Hayat, International Clinical Laboratory and other private healthcare facilities in order to enhance our capability to provide quality care to our patients.

We are also proud to announce that Saint Yared Higher Clinic signed an official agreement with Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd., a company representing the largest healthcare establishment in Asia. Saint Yared Higher Clinic will refer patients requiring highly specialized care to Apollo Hospital in India. Physicians from Apollo Hospital will also be coming to Ethiopia periodically to perform certain highly specialized surgical procedures. Continuing medical education and telemedicine services will also be fortified as a result of this agreement.

One of our long-term goals is to provide healthcare services of such excellence that it will no longer be necessary for Ethiopians to travel abroad in search of quality healthcare services. That could mean savings of tens of thousands of Birr in transportation costs alone.
