Partnership with Apollo Hospital System We are very proud to announce that Saint Yared General Hospital has an official collaborative agreement with Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd., a company representing the largest healthcare establishment in Asia. Saint Yared General Hospital is now referring patients requiring highly specialized medical services to Apollo Hospitals in India. Physicians from Apollo Hospitals will also be coming to Ethiopia periodically to perform certain highly specialized surgical procedures. Continuing medical education and telemedicine services will also be strengthened as a result of this agreement.
The referral services begin when one of our highly skilled physicians makes an official comprehensive medical evaluation and determines that the patient must be referred to Apollo in order to obtain the necessary medical treatment. Once a formal assessment and diagnosis is made, a medical resume of the patient is e-mailed to the referral center at Apollo Hospital. Then appropriate specialists will review the case and notify our hospital of their acceptance of the case and the estimated cost for the recommended medical/surgical intervention. Finally, an official letter of invitation will be sent by an Apollo Hospital representative both to Saint Yared General Hospital or and the Indian Embassy. This letter will allow the patient and an accompanying family member to acquire their visa at the Indian Embassy the very next day.
Once the patient and the accompanying family member have received their visa and made their travel arrangements at their expense, they will provide our representative with their flight information and we, in turn, will alert the Apollo representatives of the patient’s itinerary. Upon arrival in India, the patient and their accompanying family member will be greeted by an Apollo Hospital’s representative, who will transport them to the hospital. Subsequently our hospital receives a copy of the discharge summery detailing the medical care provided to the patient and instructions regarding future follow-up care upon their return to Ethiopia. The patient returns to our hospital for post-operative care or medical follow-up.
