What is SYHMP?
SYHMP is an innovative healthcare financing mechanism that links the financial resources attained by members of the Ethiopian Diaspora with the healthcare needs of their families living in Ethiopia.
Who are we?We are highly trained Ethiopian and Western trained doctors providing quality healthcare services at the Saint Yared General Hospital. In addition, physicians from Albert Einstein College of Medicine (a hospital in New York City), Mayo Clinic (in USA) and Apollo Hospitals (in India) are working with us in partnership to further improve the quality and availability of care and medical education at our hospital. Specialties and services available at Saint Yared General Hospital Saint Yared General Hospital, which is located on the CMC Road, 800 meters from Megenaga Square was opened on December 10, 2008. According to several healthcare professionals, this Hospital with its multiple specialties is one of the finest hospitals in all of Ethiopia. Its staff consists of Ethiopians as well as Western-trained doctors and nurses who have been chosen on the basis of their high quality of training, extensive experience and superb patient care. Unique collaborative relationships have been established with the Mayo Clinic Arizona and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in U.S.A., as well as with the Apollo Hospital system in India, which is the largest healthcare provider in Asia. As a result, Saint Yared General Hospital's patients and staff are exposed to significant advances in healthcare services and medical education which, until now, were not readily available in Ethiopia. Our mission is to be the most dependable healthcare center in Ethiopia; thus essentially eliminating the need for Ethiopian patients to travel abroad in search of medical care. Back to top The Gift of LifeAll Saint Yared Health Maintenance Plans are straightforward, uncomplicated and inexpensive. For as little as $25 or as high as $150 per person per month (depending on which type of service plan you choose- SILVER Plan, GOLD PLAN, DIAMOND PLAN or ALL INCLUSIVE PLAN) SYHMP will provide quality healthcare services to a person(s) in Ethiopia sponsored by you at the Saint Yared General Hospital.
Please note that all of our four plans provide 100% coverage for all doctor's visits including consultation done by our in-house specialists. Free ambulance service (from home to the hospital) is also provided to all SYHMP members 24-hours/seven days a week. SILVER Plan – This is the least expensive plan. Only $25.00 per month entitles your sponsored person(s) to a long list of basic primary care services, referral to specialty services, radiological services and laboratory services as stated in the membership package. Sponsors who sign up for the SILVER PLAN are required to make a full one year payment at the time of enrollment amounting to $300.00 per person plus a one time transaction fee of $35.00. There is a 5% discount on membership fee for a family of 3 or more persons on the total membership invoice.
GOLD PLAN – This more comprehensive membership plan allows your sponsored person(s) to receive medically-indicated surgical services provided at our hospital in addition to all the services provided under the SILVER PLAN. The membership fee for the Gold Plan is $50.00 per person per month with a payment of $600.00 for one year plus a one time transaction fee of $35.00 made at the time of enrollment. Please refer to the aforementioned cancellation policies. There is a 5% discount on membership fee for a family of 3 or more persons on the total membership invoice.
DIAMOND PLAN: Under this plan, in addition to all the services made available under the Gold Plan, your sponsored person(s) also receives pharmacy discounts. In other words, the enrollee (recipient) will receive a 30% discount on all the medications available in our pharmacy unless otherwise noted. The membership fee for this plan is $75.00 per person per month. The payment for one year, i.e. is $900.00 plus a one time transaction fee of $35.00, and must be made at the time of enrollment. We provide a 5% discount on coverage for a family of 3 or more persons on you total membership invoice. Please note that we only honor prescriptions provided by physicians of the Saint Yared General Hospital. ALL INCLUSIVE PLAN: This is the most comprehensive plan available. Under this plan, in addition to all the services made available under the Platinum Plan, your sponsored person(s) also receives 50% coverage on all outpatient and inpatient prescriptions. In other words, the enrollee (recipient) will receive 50% coverage on all the medications available in our pharmacy unless otherwise noted. The membership fee for this plan is $150.00 per person per month. The recipient will get 100% coverage for all services provided at the Saint Yared General Hospital and there is no copayment for laboratory, radiological or inpatient services. The payment for one year, i.e. is $1,800.00 plus a one time transaction fee of $35.00, must be made at the time of enrollment. There is a 5% discount on membership fee for a family of 3 or more persons on the total membership invoice. Back to top Services Provided by the SYHMPPlease refer to each plan described above to see the percentage discount your Plan provides as well as for services not covered by each specific Plan. - A personal physician will be assigned to each member at Saint Yared General Hospital, who will be the primary care provider for the patient. Patients have the right to request a different physician if they are not happy with their assigned physician.
- Emergency room services at Saint Yared General Hospital.
- Annual comprehensive physical examination.
- All visits to a primary doctor (no limits).
- Referral to specialists at Saint Yared General Hospital.
- Management of chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, heart diseases and HIV (unlimited number of visits), etc.
- Inpatient services. (Please refer to your specific plan to see if it covers inpatient services).
- All minor and major surgical procedures provided at Saint Yared General Hospital unless listed under the excluded items.
- Blood transfusion.
- All laboratory tests (inpatient & outpatient).
- Prenatal and postnatal care.
- Gynecological services (including Pap smear).
- Medical evaluation and clearance for employment, school admission or travel.
- Routine pediatric visits and developmental monitoring.
- Circumcision.
- Age-appropriate cancer screenings (Pap Smear, Colon Cancer Screening, Prostate Cancer screening)
- HIV counseling, testing and treatment. Anti retroviral drugs for HIV/AIDS patients are provided by the Ethiopian government free of charge.
- Free consultation and educational services provided by highly qualified pharmacists to improve adherence to treatment and minimize unwanted adverse effects of medications.
- Periodically scheduled educational services on various topics such as diet, lowering risk factors for heart diseases, diabetes, HIV and cancers.
- Confidential consultation services on smoking and alcohol cessation.
- Modern family planning services including free contraceptive methods (condoms, contraceptive pills and IUDs).
- Educational services on parenthood.
- Educational services and material for newly diagnosed diabetic patients on insulin therapy and other related issues.
- Appropriate referral services (including a comprehensive medical resume of the patient) to other local as well as foreign healthcare facilities including Apollo Hospital. The patient will be directly responsible for the fee for services rendered at other healthcare facilities.
